William A Scott

SCOTT

William A., Bill, 71, of Oaklyn, passed away on April 23 in Cooper Trauma ICU after being injured officiating a NJ State Track & Field Meet on April 3. He is lovingly missed by his wife of 38 years, Debbie, and adoring dogs, Lola and Rudy.  Also survived by loving brother, Ken, brothers-in-law Pete (Sharon), Rob (Judy), and Ted,11 nieces and nephews, and many cousins. Raised in Wissinoming in Northeast Phila, Bill graduated St. Bartholomew Elementary (’64) and North Catholic H.S. (’68), where he competed on the tennis team. After graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1969 for 3 years which included a tour in Vietnam.  Bill began his career at the U.S. Mint in Phila in ’73, became actively involved with the union local, and was selected to be trained as a Mediator/Arbitrator, elected V.P. and served as President during his union tenure. He retired in 2009.  After moving to NJ (’79) and marrying Debbie in ’83, Bill became a certified scuba diver in ’86.  A few years later, he became a NJ state certified official for high school sports: football (’90), baseball/softball (’91), track & field (’97), and tennis (2012).

After retiring, Bill became a certified pool operator and spent 3 years as pool manager of the Oaklyn Swim Club. At the age of 67, after working security at Clementon Park a few years, He became a certified deep-water pool lifeguard and worked until it closed in 2019.  Bill was a lifelong fan of the Eagles and Phillies and loved playing golf, reading, and traveling. Bill and Debbie were looking forward to visiting more of the U.S. in the years to come.  Memorial service and burial will be at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to a charity of your choice. #crerancelebration #heartfelt
