Wallace E Hudson

January 11, 1923 — September 6, 2012

Age 89 of Brooksville, FL formerly of Haddon Heights, NJ where he lived most of his life died Thursday Sept. 6, 2012 at HPH Hospice Care Center in Brooksville.

Mr. Hudson was born in Erwin, NC, the youngest of 11 children by Timothy E. and Vinnie Warren Hudson. He was married to Edna Eble Hudson of Philadelphia for 51 years until her death in 1995. Together they had five children: Wallace E Hudson Jr. of Lewes, DE; Dwayne Warren Hudson of Exeter Township, PA; Jeffrey David Hudson of Haddon Heights, NJ, Randi Lynne Rautanen of Haddon Heights, NJ and the late Keith John Hudson, died in 1994.
In addition to his children, he is survived by 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; and his companion Shirley McEwen.

Mr. Hudson was a retired electrician from the former Atlantic Richfield Co., and was also a self-employed electrical contractor his entire working life. A US Navy veteran of World War II, he saw service in both the North Atlantic and the South Pacific where he served aboard the USS Washington (BB-56) which in the third Battle of Savo Bay, Guadal Canal, achieved the distinction of being the only fast attack battleship in the history of the United States Navy to sink an enemy battleship (the Kirishima) in a one-on-one battle in November, 1942.

Funeral services will be held 11AM on Saturday Sept. 15th at the Henry Funeral Home,
152 W. Atlantic Ave, Audubon, NJ 08106. A viewing will begin at 9AM. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Locustwood Memorial Park, Cherry Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
