Velma E. Nazar, age 100, passed away Saturday, February 6th, 2021 at her home in Westmont with her dear friend, Harvey, by her bedside. Velma, beloved wife of 61 years to the late Earle Nazar, leaves behind her godson David Ruggles (Karen) , and also her loving friends Harvey and Debbie Garrison , Joe and Patti DiPietro.
Velma, a longtime resident of Gloucester City, graduated in the class of 1938 from Gloucester High School, was a lifelong member of the Trinity Methodist Church in Gloucester City. She worked for 20 years at Linsk Company in Westville, NJ as a special button machine operator. She stopped working to take care of her mother. Velma was a Girl Scout Leader for 4 years. She enjoyed hosting outdoor parties during the spring and summer in her beautifully manicured yard and playing ball with her guests and neighbors in the “Back Lot “. She loved swimming and roller skating, and working in her flower gardens, playing card games, shopping for bargains at Boscov’s, taking bus trips and rides to Ocean City, NJ and eating at The Crab Trap in Somers Point.
She also enjoyed attending Easter and Christmas Cantatas and she always looked forward to spending Christmas Eve with the Ruggles family and decorating their tree!!
Relatives, friends and neighbors are invited to gather and share their heartfelt stories on Saturday February 20th between 10:00 and 11:00 am at Creran Celebration Etherington & Creran Funeral Homes 700 Powell St. Gloucester City where a remembrance ceremony will begin at 11:00 am. Love’s reunion will immediately follow at Harleigh Cemetery in the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum. As an expression of sympathy and In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions in Velma’s name be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church – 8th and Division streets in Gloucester City, NJ. 08030
