Age 93 of Audubon, NJ passed away peacefully on March 24,2013 surrounded by his children. Part of Brokaw's "Greatest Generation" he served his country during World WarII. Like many of the brave young men of the time he volunteered shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor and was assigned to the Pacific Theatre. Upon arriving home he met the love of his life, Peggy (née McGovern) with whom he spent the next 60 years. Tom spent over 43 years with PSE&G working his way through the ranks and into management. He loved The Phillies as well as going to Long Beach Island where he enjoyed many good times with family and friends.
He is survived by Thomas F. McGettigan, Jr. husband of Beverly, Michael McGettigan, Maureen McGettigan, Ken McGettigan husband of Mary Jo, Peggy Jane Toomb wife of Martin and Chris McGettigan husband of Mary; 10 loving grandchildren Cameron and Thomas McGettigan, Matthew and Colin McGettigan, Maura, Sheila and Conor Toomb and Stephen, Colleen and Carly McGettigan; also survived by his brother Harry and sister Mary Duffy as well as Catherine Farrell. The family would also like to thank Ms. Laura Dunn for all she has done on Tom's behalf these past several years. Also His care givers the past year, Michelle, Carol, Cheryl, Dawn and Lee Ann.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet Wednesday morning from 9:00 - 11:00 at the Henry Funeral Home, 152 West Atlantic Ave., Audubon, NJ 08106. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at High Noon at St. Rose of Lima Church, 4th Ave & Kings Hwy, Haddon Heights, NJ 08035 He also loved Westerns).
