Raymond L. "Beans" Applegate, Sr., age 82, passed away suddenly at the Frankford Hospital, Philadelphia on Tuesday December 9, 2008.
"Beans" was born in Lindenwold, NJ and spent the early part of his life in South Jersey. Ray attended St. Lawrence School in Lindenwold and the Applegate family had been founding parishioners of Our Lady of Grace R.C. Church in Somerdale. Mr. Applegate faithfully defended his country during WWII in the U.S. Army Air Corps and had been a member of the Somerdale VFW, post 7334.
"Beans" had loved family, string bands and was an avid golfer. He joined the Aqua String Band in the early 70's and had been the bands "starter" on new years day since 1976. At the Aqua String Band clubhouse Beans always sat next to his buddies Bill Glickman and Rich Murphy at the end of the bar.
An outgoing, happy and dedicated husband, father Ray leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 55 years Frances (nee McNally) of Tacony, Ray L. & his wife Jennifer Applegate, Jr., Francis & his wife Patricia all of Mayfair, Diane & her husband Michael Johnston of Sicklerville, Linda Applegate of Tacony, Rosie & her husband Steven Bromiley of Port Richmond and Patrick & his wife Kathi of Tacony. "Pop" is the proud grandfather of 15, great grandfather of 2 and is the brother of Francis & his wife Marge Applegate of Burlington, the late Mary Jackson, Jean Tucker and Roy Applegate.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the Applegate family to remember and pay tribute to "Pop" on Friday morning between 8 am and 10 at the funeral home where a funeral service will be celebrated at 10 am. Interment and military tribute will follow at Magnolia Cemetery, Philadelphia.
