Born in Philadelphia, PA to Olaf Sorensen, a Merchant Seaman and immigrant of Sandefijord, Norway and Katherine Sorensen (Ford) of Philadelphia, PA. Norb was raised in Cramer Hill Section of Camden, NJ and Fairfield, PA. He and his wife currently resided in West Deptford and were formerly of Bellmawr, NJ, Tolland, CT, and Fort Mill, SC. Norb is survived by the love of his life, Joanna Sorensen (Somma); his children Stephen Sorensen (Darlene) of Westmont; Sandra Polo (Russell) of Deptford; Fred Roberts of Haddonfield; six grandchildren, of whom he could not have been more proud, Zachary & Samantha Sorensen, Anthony Polo and Trey, Madison and Anthony Roberts; his brother Donald Sorensen (MaryAnn) of Berlin, NJ and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends, especially his "Fort Mill Family," the Laszewskis, Neidermeiers and Zoellers. He was also predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Richard. Norb was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson HS, the Camden NJ Firefighter Academy and Lincoln Technical Institute. He was a proudly retired Firefighter for the City of Camden and a member of Local #788. He served for 18 years at Engine Company #8, at 6th & Kaign Avenues. He had also been a Service Engineer for the Xerox Corporation in Philadelphia PA, Hartford CT and Charlotte NC for 20 years. Norb shared a love for remodeling the homes in which he lived. He enjoyed traveling the USA with his wife and they also raised 4 wonderful shelter dogs who await his arrival in Heaven.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the CRERAN FUNERAL HOME, 400 WHITE HORSE PIKE, OAKLYN, NJ. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 7:00 PM. Norb fought a valiant ten year battle with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia and complications associated with Diabetes and Heart Disease. In lieu of flowers, his family would appreciate donations in Norb's name be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, American Diabetes Association or the ASPCA.
