Michael J Burt

January 14, 1962 — March 31, 2025

Sicklerville

Imagine a dad who’s a big kid at heart with big, goofy energy, always cracking jokes (some great, some painfully bad), and never afraid to make a fool of himself just to get a laugh, turning even the most ordinary moments into a hilarious adventure. He’s the kind of dad who dances ridiculously in the kitchen and adds over-the-top reactions to even the smallest things.

He’s got an endless supply of dad jokes and puns, delivered with such confidence that you can’t help but laugh. He’ll even belt out karaoke in the car like he’s headlining a concert with full theatrical flair, sometimes changing the lyrics just to make them even more ridiculous.

But he’s also deeply emotive—his love and excitement are impossible to miss. Beneath all the fun and craziness, he’s got a heart of gold. If he’s proud, he’s shouting it from the rooftops. If he’s moved, you’ll see it in his teary-eyed smile. He gives the biggest, warmest bear hugs when his kids need them and somehow always knows the perfect way to cheer you up. He’s the dad who makes life feel like a never-ending adventure, filled with belly laughs, spontaneous fun, and an endless supply of love, making life one big, joyful trip around the sun.

Michael J. Burt, oh how, how we wish you were here… We can’t smile without you. Mike was a kind soul who kept to himself and took comfort in being in the company of his family. He was simply the best dad! During the very early morning of Monday, March 31, 2025, the unthinkable became the unspeakable: After a brief adversity in his health, Mike passed away at home in Sicklerville, surrounded by the comfort and love of his family.

Mike was born in Camden and had been a Gloucester neighbor before spending his later years in Sicklerville, Gloucester Twp. Mike was inspiring and curiously creative. Picture a dad who can’t sit still when there’s something to fix, build, or create. He was an amazing cook and learned from his mother, and he passed down to his daughter, Emily. Mike’s a “do-it-yourself dynamo”. His enthusiasm was contagious and sometimes a little chaotic. But no matter how many hobbies he jumped into (and quickly moved from), he was fearless in trying new things. Mike worked hard and supported his family working in HVAC for Jamco Heating & Air Conditioning in Pennsauken. However, he found solace in silence and solitude. The outdoors were his respite. Whether deep in the woods tracking deer or sitting alone by the water, Mike found peace where the only sounds are the rustling leaves, the call of a distant bird, or the splash of a fish breaking the surface. He doesn’t need the noise of the world—just the steady rhythm of nature and the quiet satisfaction of self-reliance. Despite his love for solitude, he’s fiercely loyal to those he holds close. How much he cared is in the way he taught his kids how to tie a lure.

Mike leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 30 years, the girl who got the flowers that night in Cherrywood, Patricia (nee Belson) Burt. He is the father of Emily Burt and Shawn Burt and his fiancé Ciarra. Mike is a proud, first-time grandfather and will be deeply missed by his sisters Diane & her husband Jim Ehrman and Patricia and her husband Steve Mason. Mike was predeceased by his daughter, Ashley, his brother, Donald Burt, and his sister, Kathleen Gosin. But, is also survived and will be sadly missed by his sister in law Terri Pennington and his best friend, Bobby T”.

Relatives, friends, and neighbors are invited to join the Burt family. We’ll come together and take comfort in each other on Monday morning between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm at Creran Celebration Etherington & Creran Funeral Homes, 700 Powell St., Gloucester, where reflections of Mike’s life and legacy will follow at 1:00 pm, during which those who wish to speak and share memories are welcome. The time-honored tradition of reuniting those we love with nature will be held privately.
