We all come to this world to be tourists, enjoy life, go sightseeing and have fun. Travel isn't always pretty. It isn't always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that's okay. The journey changes you. Madge’s journey made her. It made her a; mother, wife, grandmother and friend. It took her to the city, to the theater’s bright lights, Hawaii and The Big Easy. Yes, we knew you’d stay while you can. Then you’d go and we’ll grow, and we’ll cry. For a while… Forever always seems to be around when it begins but forever never seems to be around when it ends. On Monday February 22, 2021, Madeline G. “Madge” (nee Day) Phipps finished her journey of 95 trips around the sun and gave away her forever away from Virtua Hospital in Voorhees.
Madge’s sun rose during the roaring 20’s in South West Philadelphia. Her early years saw prohibition while her formative years witnessed the beginning and end of WWII. Madge was a reader and loved the places her books and her imagination would take her. Later in her years, her work at United Airlines in Philadelphia would give her the opportunity to visit new places for 18 years. After retiring it was the theater’s stage and movies that would take her. Out to dinner was her personal favorite.
After city life Madge settled in the south jersey suburbs to be closer to her daughter. She is the mother of Diane & her husband Raymond Stanton, the late William T. “Tommy” Phipps and is the grandmother of Ashley Doolan and a long list of grand doggies.
Relatives, friends and neighbors are invited to gather with Madge’s family. We’ll be sharing heartfelt stories, thumbing through Daniele Steel romance novels and remembering an independent mother and grandmother on Friday morning between 10:00 am and 11:00 am at Creran Celebration Etherington & Creran Funeral Homes 400 White Horse Pike, Oaklyn where a remembrance ceremony will begin at 11:00 am. A graveside tribute will immediately follow at Glenwood Memorial Gardens 2321 West Chester Pike, Broomall, PA. Madge had made it her purpose to donate to many things, little by little over many years. As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to a favorite charity of the donor’s choosing.
