What could be better than a day filled with exploring the woods, an evening around a campfire, and a night in the tent beneath a pitch-black sky filled with bright stars? This place touches the soul with solitude. Nature is a place of solace, inspiration, adventure, and delight; a home, a teacher, and a companion. John A. Stone found this to be his place. He was energetic and loved to be outdoors. Kayaking, building fires, camping, hiking, and fishing…
On Saturday, August 17, 2024, John went just a little further than the sun. After just 55 trips, when that time came around, we laid him gently in the cold dark ground. He was kind, fun, and willing.
John’s sun had risen during the early winter of 1968, just before the festive season of celebration. He spent his circle of days as a Gloucester neighbor spending his last few in Malaga. He loved animals, was the youngest in a very large family, and loved everyone dearly.
John leaves an afterglow of memories to be remembered by his mother Joan (nee Harvey) and her late husband Robert Stone, his daughters Jamie & Dayna Stone. He is the proud grandfather of his grandson Carter and is also survived and will be sadly missed by his brothers and sisters; Michael Stone, Joannie Crawford, Joy Hagquist, Joe Stone, and the late; Bobby Stone, Bill Stone, and Jeanne Stone.
Relatives, friends, and neighbors are invited to gather with the Stone family. We’ll come together to remember and pay tribute to our father, brother, grandfather, and friend on Wednesday morning between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm at Creran Celebration Etherington & Creran Funeral Homes 700 Powell St., Gloucester City where a remembrance ceremony will be celebrated at 1:00 pm. The time-honored tradition of reuniting those we love with nature will be held privately.
