Live for today, not for tomorrow. Once you chose hope, anything is possible. Janet E. Bowe (nee Hendry) was a unique, wild spirit. She possessed a kind but fiercely independent heart that radiated from her smile. She was the ultimate survivor, a courageous woman, and truly lived the words she advised to others, “hang tough”.
Janet was relentless and found the courage to keep going even when her body became weak. Nothing could stop her from shopping or going for errands with her children. She loved to see the beach or sit and look at the water. She listened to her special music and loved to stay in contact with her friends and classmates. She fought hard thru the loneliness of losing her “sweetie pie, Bowie” and numerous medical issues. On Thursday, January 12, 2023, after 83 years, Janet was called to be with her beloved once again. Some of her last words to loved ones were that she was ready to go “up, up, up and dance and sing with my husband”.
Janet’s sun rose out of Camden City during the early fall of 1939. She had spent her early years as a Bellmawr neighbor before moving to West Deptford. Janet made her early career as a data entry operator at RCA and Cambria. Later in life, she became an aide for the Jewish Geriatric Center where her true love of caring for others could shine. Although she never achieved her early dreams of becoming a nurse, she cared for numerous family members throughout her life and helped to raise her grandchildren.
Janet is the widow of her beloved late husband Edward M. Sr. She is survived by her children; Edwina & her husband Dave Milsted, Edward Bowe-Hellwig & his husband Gary Hellwig-Bowe and Leslie & his wife Paula Bowe. Janet is the proud grandmother of; Adam Milsted & his wife Eileen, Rebekah & her husband Anthony Santarsiero and Hannah Bowe.
To everything, there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die… On April 29, 2018, the love of her life shut off the light. On January 12, 2023, the warm afterglow of love’s reunion warmed all our hearts.
The Bowe family has chosen to share their heartfelt stories and the time-honored tradition of love’s reunion with a Celebration of Janet’s Life to be held at Elizabeth’s Ballroom, 419 Highland Ave., Gloucester City, NJ on Saturday, February 4, 2023, from 1 pm-5 pm. Please come and join them to share a story or memory and raise a glass to Janet (Goose).
