James E. "Jimmy" Ashe, Sr., age 67 of Audubon Park, passed away on Thursday August 20, 2009 at the NJ Veterans Memorial Home in Vineland.
Mr. Ashe was born in Camden and had been a longtime resident of Audubon Park. He faithfully defended his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1964. Jim was a Parishioner of St. Mary's R.C. Church in Gloucester City and was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan. Mr. Ashe worked at the Dupont Co. in DE for 30 years as a Chemical Operator and had retired in 2000. He also worked as a Bus Driver for over 20 years at Pat & Gordon's in Lawnside. Jim was a lifetime member of the Brooklawn Fire Co, Sta. 344. He was an exempt fireman and had been a member of the Brooklawn and New Jersey Fireman's Relief Associations. He was also a lifetime member of the Gloucester City VFW Post 3620.
Mr. Ashe will be fondly remembered as an easy going and laid back family man. He is survived by his wife Linda Ashe (nee Shimmin) and is the dedicated father of Sharon Huegel, Michelle Morris, Jackie Ellis, Diane Rodig, Nancy Thompson, Linda Gilfillan, James E., Jr., David and Mark Ellis. Jim is the proud grandfather of 14 and will be sadly missed by his siblings William & Jean Ashe, Patricia Ashe and his nephews; Bill, Bob, Ralph, Dan, Sam and Jonathan Ashe.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the Ashe family to remember and pay tribute to Jim on Tuesday morning between 9 and 11 am at the funeral home where a memorial service will be celebrated at 11 am. Inurnment and military tribute will follow at Harleigh Cemetery, Camden. As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers donations can be made to CurePsp Executive Plaza III 11350 McCormick rd.
