Isabelle Shaw Tamburri completed her earthly journey on June 23, 2022. That journey was filled with so much life. She was a true lady, hospitable, gracious, and brilliant with a strong faith. She had a love for philosophy, reading, and nature. Born in Camden on December 8, 1928, Isabelle grew up in Oaklyn and graduated from Collingswood High School where she made lifelong friends. She always spoke of her time at Ursinus College with fondness where she learned the wonders of chemical compounds and then used it as a chemist at the DuPont Company. Later, she worked as a science & math teacher at Mullica Hill Friends School using her extensive knowledge to encourage others. While she was an accomplished scientist, she was also an artist who wedded the two disciplines in her own mystical manner. Isabelle loved a day on the Ocean City Boardwalk, spending time at Longwood Gardens and visiting the Brandywine River Museum enjoying the work of the Wyeth family, whose artist’s work hung throughout her home, along with those of other masters. Her husband, Enrico (Rick) Tamburri was often at her side and supported her in any way he could. Isabelle was an accomplished seamstress who could put colors and fabrics together to create a beautifully appointed room as well as a wardrobe.
A unique and infectious laugh was often woven through a conversation with eyes that flashed with innocent excitement and a smile that said more than words ever could. As a longtime resident of Pitman, she enjoyed the close-knit atmosphere of the town and business community. Isabelle was a more than 50-year member of First Baptist Church of Pitman, learning, growing in her faith, and serving as a leader. She loved wisdom and truthful ways. In later years, she was a part of Oaklyn Baptist Church and then Chesterfield Baptist Church. Her faith boosted her generosity, and her friends and family could sight her generosity throughout their homes and in their hearts. Her last home was in Pemberton Borough where she quickly won the hearts of those who she befriended. That was true wherever she landed. She was proud of her two children, Sharon (Fred) Poinsett and Jon (Kate) Williams. This vivacious soul was preceded in her translation to glory by her husband, Rick, her parents, Ethel & William Shaw and her sister, Dorothy (Albert). She is also survived and will be missed by her nieces and grandchildren.
Relatives, friends, and neighbors are invited to gather with Isabelle’s family on Saturday morning, July 9 between 10:00 am and 11:00, followed by a service of remembrance to celebrate Isabelle’s life at 11:00.
