Glenwood D Hoover

August 26, 1924 — October 30, 2020

On Friday, October 30, 2020, Glenwood Hoover passed away at the age of 96. Glen was born on August 26, 1924 in a 2nd floor bedroom in a small rowhome in Gloucester City, NJ – a true Gloucester Boy. He worked as a public utility inspector for the State of New Jersey and was a professional musician. He was the youngest of four sons (all deceased). The oldest was George born in 1910, John born in 1914, and Joe born in 1917. All were musicians. Glen started taking trumpet lessons when he was 10. He was the oldest member of the Philadelphia Musician’s Union. He graduated Gloucester High School in 1942 and played in the school band. Glen enlisted in  the Army-Air Corp and played lead trumpet in their band during WWII. He continued his career as a musician by playing for several big bands as well as local talent such as Bobby Rydell. He loved his trumpet and would call friends, family, and even the doctor’s office receptionists to play “guess that tune over the phone”.

Glen was preceded by his wife Florence “Ginger”, his son’s Kevin and Keith, his parents George & Ida and three brothers. He is survived by three children, Dianna, Glenn “Scott”, and Karl (Susan) along with seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. There will be a memorial service held at the Lakeview Memorial Park 1300 Route 130 North Cinnaminson, NJ 08077 at 11:30AM on Saturday, November 7, 2020. As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to a favorite charity of the donor’s choosing.
