Of Haddon Heights, NJ retired after 39 years of service passed away on April 23, 2012 at the age of 82. He is survived by his wife Patricia; his children Emilie Ann Morrell of Haddon Heights, Mary Susan Cimini & her husband Benjamin of Little Egg Harbor, Gerald Minchin III & his wife Denise of Haddon Heights, Thomas Minchin & his wife Tricia of Nazareth, PA; 7 grandchildren Michael Morrell(Renice), Jeffrey Morrell (Alexis), Julie Derham, Jason Cimini (Jessica), DorisAnne Minchin, Sarah Minchin, Carla Ferreira; 8 great grandchildren Kiera Ann, Michael, John, Domenic, GiGi, Collin, Mia, Abbi; and a sister Barbara Carol Minchin of Port Townsend, WA.
Jerry served in the Naval Reserve and NJ Army National Guard for over 39 years. He enlisted in 1947 and advanced to Master Sergeant until his appointment as a 2LT in 1963. He was assigned to various command and staff positions throughout his distinguished career, most notably Battalion Commander 1st Bn 112th Field Artillery and Commander High Technology Training Center Ft Dix. He worked for the NJ Department of Military and Veterans Affairs retiring as a Colonol. Throughout his career he received over 13 awards and decorations including the Legion of Merit and The Ancient Order of Saint Barbara Medal. He was a member and past Commander of the Camden Light Artillery Association. He was a volunteer of the Haddon Heights Fire Department previously serving as Chaplain and Fire Police and also on the Robert Stanfill Towers Board of Directors. Through out all his years of service in the military, his church and his community, Jerry's greatest achievements and love were found in his devotion to his wife Pat of 61 years. His love for his family, his four children whom he was so proud of, his seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren all of whom he most enjoyed spending time with on the beaches of Cape May.
Relatives and friends are invited attend the visitation on Saturday from 9-11am at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, White Horse Pike & Green St, Haddon Heights, NJ 08035 followed by a Memorial Service at 11am. Final tribute with military honors St. Mary's Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers and as an expression sympathy contributions in Gerry's memory may be made to the church.
