Laugh at yourself, but don’t ever aim your doubt at yourself. Be bold. Laughter is the sun that drives winter from our faces.”
George B. Schaffer, Jr. lived life with a big heart, an unforgettable laugh, and his famous motto, “Party on.” His laughter, unmistakable and infectious, could light up any room—or carry across it. George was jovial, outgoing, and larger than life. A jokester at heart, he never met a stranger, only friends he hadn’t made yet. To him, life wasn’t about where you went—it was about the people you met along the way.
On Friday, November 29, 2024, the world became a little quieter as George left it. His family and friends are left with the echoes of his laugh, the reminder to “party on,” and the countless memories of a man who loved deeply, laughed often, and gave everything for those he cherished.
George was born and passed in Camden, NJ, a full-circle journey he often joked about. He grew up in Winslow, then spent much of his life in Haddon Township, where he and his late wife, Kimberly (nee McMahon), raised their family. George was a devoted father to his daughter, Amber Schaffer (Zac Volio). Together, Amber and Zac shared a special relationship with George, who was always their biggest supporter. Amber was George’s pride and joy, and their bond was unshakable. In their final years, they lived together in Blackwood, where George continued to pour his heart into his family.
As “Pop Pop,” George was the ultimate grandfather, always going to the ends of the earth for his grandkids: Mason, Kaiden, and Adalyn, whom he shared with Amber and Zac; Josh, Kimmy, and Gabe, children of John Jamieson; and Danny and Ashley, children of Alia Jamieson. Alongside his grandchildren, George shared an especially close bond with his brother, William “Bill” Schaffer (Kate), who was not only his sibling but also his lifelong confidant and best friend. George adored his family and took immense pride in being their biggest fan.
George worked for many years in landscaping at Scians Lawncare and Landscaping in West Berlin and was a dedicated member of the Oaklyn Department of Public Works. He had a deep love for Wawa, which he considered his home away from home, and was an unofficial candy connoisseur.
George was predeceased by his wife, Kimberly; his siblings Elaine Kinsley, Maryland Schaffer, Darlene H. Lonabaugh, and Raymond Schaffer. He is survived by his brother William Schaffer (Kate), his daughter Amber, his son-in-law Zac, his stepchildren John Jamieson and Alia Jamieson, as well as many nieces, nephews, co-workers, and friends who will deeply miss him.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the Schaffer family to remember George’s unmistakable laugh, his love of Wawa, and his famous call to “party on.” Join us Thursday morning between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. at Creran Celebration Etherington & Creran Funeral Homes, 400 White Horse Pike, Oaklyn. Reflections of George will follow at 12:00 p.m., during which those who wish to share memories are welcome.
