Edith (nee Rubinkam) Ward of Audubon, NJ. Aged 98 years.
Died November 10, 2018.
Beloved wife of the late John F. Ward
Devoted mother of Steven (Janice) Ward and the late Michael Ward.
Loving grandmother of Katy (Mark) Terry and Henry Ward.
She is also predeceased by her siblings, Philip Rubinkam, Jesse Rubinkam, Sara Stratton, Edra Bechtel, Emma Hale, Lillian Kramer and Helen Perry.
Edith was born in Jamison, Pa., in 1920, the year that women's suffrage was enacted; she cast a mail-in vote the last week of her life. She married John Ward in 1945 and moved to Margate, N.J. - he had proposed by asking her, "How would you like to live at the shore?" They lived in Margate and in Virginia until 1979, when they moved to Audubon.
A woman of strong faith, Edith was involved in and very devoted to her church wherever she lived. For 39 years she was a member of Audubon United Methodist Church, where she taught adult Sunday school and was a member of United Methodist Women. She had been the organist at Delair United Methodist Church and Bethel United Methodist Church in Pennsauken, and also volunteered at United Methodist Homes at Collingswood Manor.
Edith was a dedicated pianist who studied with Rosalyn Tureck at the Philadelphia Conservatory of Music. She became a piano teacher and taught hundreds of students over the years.
Edith delighted in homemaking and cooking, especially Sunday dinner for her family, and also frequently entertained family and friends in her home. She also loved tending to her garden, watching MSNBC, and doting on her grandchildren. She was devoted to caring for her older son, who lived with her until he died this year.
Edith was a loving, generous woman who will be deeply missed by all.
