David Roy Ballinger

December 19, 1918 — May 5, 2013

Age 94, passed peacefully on May 5, 2013 in Timonium, MD. Born in Marlton, NJ in 1918 to Levi and Edna Ballinger, David was a longtime resident of Westmont, NJ having previously lived in Rancocas, Haddon Heights, Princeton and most recently residing in Bel Air, MD.

David spent 67 years as the beloved husband of Dorothy T. Ballinger. He is the loving father of Roy H. Ballinger (Pamela) of Aberdeen, MD and Richard S. Ballinger (Natalie) of London, UK. Dear grandfather of Nicholas Ballinger, Meghan Wade (Timothy) of Bettendorf, IA and Isabelle, Martine, and Amelia Ballinger of London, UK. Great grandfather of Gabriella, step-grandfather of Cheryl Usilton (Jason) of Conowingo, MD and step-great grandfather of Anthony Perry and Wade.

A graduate of George School, PA class of 1938; he attended Pierce College and graduated from the Wharton School of Finance and Accounting, University of Pennsylvania in 1953. David spent 41 years as a Commercial Manager for the PSE&G Company of Camden, NJ.

Mr. Ballinger was an active member of the community. His fraternal memberships include Audubon-Parkside Masonic Lodge #218, Past Patron Oaklyn Eastern Star #219, Excelsior Scottish Rite Bodies of Southern New Jersey, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite and presently a member of Athene Chapter #219, Order of the Eastern Star.

His special recognitions include: Camden Lions Club Past President (1987), Member of the Board of Directors for the American Red Cross, Camden County Hero Scholarship Fund, Princeton Lions Club, Trenton Kiwanis Club, South Jersey Chamber of Commerce, Union League of Camden County, House of Charity, Camden County YMCA, South Jersey Personal Group, Camden and Mercer Counties United Way.

He was the former Superintendent of Oaklyn Baptist Church Sunday School and past board member of the Haddonfield United Methodist Church.

While in the US Army as Master Sergeant, he was assigned to HQ First US Army. His campaigns included: Ardennes - Central Europe-Normandy-Northern Europe-Rhineland. His decorations included American Defense Medal, Bronze Star, Croix de Guerre, European Service, Good Conduct Medal, NJ Distinguished Service and Liberation de la France-Normandy.

Family and friends are invited to his viewing on Thursday evening at 6 PM with Masonic Services at 7:45 PM, followed by funeral services at 8 PM. Internment will take place on Friday at Atlantic View Cemetery, Manasquan, NJ.
