Cynthia J. (West) Berchtold

November 3, 1943 — March 26, 2023

Moorestown, NJ

Kind, generous and intelligent are among the many words that Cynthia J. “Cyndy” Berchtold personified. She was a great woman who lived a full and good life. She cared deeply about animals and took her stands with conviction.

Cyndy passed away Sunday March 26, 2023 after a short stay at Jefferson Hospital in Cherry Hill.

Cyndy was born in Camden and spent her formative years in Collingswood. She graduated from Collingswood High School, class of 1961. Cyndy received her undergraduate degree from Ithaca College and completed her education with a Masters degree from Temple University. Cyndy made her career as a speech pathologist, spending her years working for several school districts, retiring from Pennsauken Public Schools in 2010.

She had an interest in politics, and ran for Mayor of Cherry Hill in 1988. Cyndy was an advocate for animal rights with dogs as her passion, served on Gov. Whitman’s Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse and the Camden County Open Space Committee. At home, she enjoyed the company of family, dogs and friends. Cyndy also loved cars, clothes, travel, and always took to the roads in the fast lane. Over the years she enjoyed her Corvettes, Jaguars and BMW’s.  Cyndy not only cruised down the road, but also to Europe and Puerto Rico, and always leaving time to slip her feet into the warm Long Beach Island sand.

Cyndy and Wallace “Wally” Berchtold were established in love in 1974 and enjoyed 31 years of marriage until his passing in 2005. She leaves in her afterglow, her brother David West (Elizabeth) and is the beloved aunt of Rachael West Lee (Brian), and David West Jr (Samantha). She is the proud great aunt of Morgan, Kenny, Charlie, Teddy, Juliet, Ethan, Matthew and Faith.

There are some people in life that make you laugh a little louder, smile a little brighter and live just a little bit better. These people are put on this earth with deep passion and immense love for others. Cyndy is survived by and will be very sadly missed by Melissa Krouse (Richard) and their children Carter and Natalie.

Relatives, friends and neighbors are invited to gather with Cyndy’s family. We come together to take comfort in each other and share our heartfelt memories on Saturday afternoon between 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm at Creran Celebration Etherington & Creran Funeral Homes 400 White Horse Pike, Oaklyn.
