Born in Hanover, PA, raised in Camden, and a resident of Woodlynne for over 60 years. Best known to his friends as Corky. One of 6 children, Corky is predeceased by his parents, Charles and Myrtle Carr, four sisters Sis, Cordella, Violet, and Emmaline, his loving wife Delores, and son Wayne. Corky is survived by his brother Phil, daughter-in-law Andrea, granddaughters Erica Carr (Mike) and Ashley Latrella (Anthony), and great-grandchildren Emelia, Lucy, Lorenzo, and Gianna. He will be lovingly remembered by his niece Clare and great-niece Stacey (Tom).
Corky met his beautiful wife at just 17 years old while working at Woolworth’s on Federal St in Camden. They were married as he began his military service with the Army during WWII. They hosted many social gatherings in their basement bar and enjoyed an abundance of “socials” with their friends, especially the late Alma and Lloyd Gardner, his sister-in-law, and her husband.
Corky also had a lifelong love affair with sports. He avidly participated in bowling and golf for many years and was especially a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies.
Corky worked for years as a sheet metal fabricator. His dedication and hard work allowed him to provide for his wife and son, and in later years afforded them the ability to provide fun for the grandkids. His granddaughters remember having great entertainers at each birthday party - clowns, hula dancers, petting zoos - and their grandparents were so happy to share in their delight. They also enjoyed day trips to Philadelphia, dance lessons, and lots of desserts together. Corky will be best remembered as a loving husband, father, “Grandad”, and “Unkie”.
Relatives, friends, and neighbors are invited to gather with the Carr family on Saturday afternoon between 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm at Creran Celebration Etherington & Creran Funeral Homes 400 White Horse Pike, Oaklyn. A graveside tribute including United States Army military honors will immediately follow at Harleigh Cemetery, Camden.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) in Mr. Carr's memory.
