Benjamin B. Foster, Jr. passed away at the age of 91 at Cooper University Hospital on March 4, 2022. He was born to the late Benjamin and Leona Foster (nee Groff) on March 15, 1930 in Pitman, NJ. Ben graduated from Gloucester City High School Class of 1947, and then graduated with honors from the Ohio Mechanics Institute in 1951 with a degree in Power Laundry. Following graduation, Ben was involuntarily inducted into the United States Army and sent to Korea. After separation from service in 1953, he started at the family business, Fosters’ Laundry and Drycleaning in Gloucester City, where he remained until it was sold in 1981. Ben continued working until age 87 installing and maintaining laundry machinery for various laundries throughout South Jersey. Ben was a former president of the Camden County Drycleaners Guild, a former member of the Board of Directors of the Better Business Bureau, and former president of the New Jersey Laundry and Cleaning Institute. Ben was also very active in the Masons for 68 years, serving as Worshipful Master of Cloud Lodge No. 101 F&AM in 1963 and again in 1990. He was also a Grand Chaplain in the Grand Lodge of New Jersey in 1994-1995. Ben joined the Scottish Rite in 1979, and was elected to be a 33° Mason in 2002. Ben was also very active in the Trinity United Methodist Church in Gloucester City, serving on various committees.
Ben is predeceased by his sisters; Doris Goldy and Barbara Toomey. He is survived and will be greatly missed by his wife of 68 years Juanita Foster (nee Schatzman), his daughter Karen Foster, his sister Joan Read, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to join Ben’s family on Thursday evening between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm and Friday morning between 10:00 am and 11:00 am at Trinity United Methodist Church, 741 Division Street, Gloucester City. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 am. Following service, interment will occur at Manahath Cemetery 730 North Main Street, Glassboro, New Jersey.
