Arlene M. Watson (nee Lindsay)
September 14, 1938-January 14, 2025
Audubon, NJ
Arlene passed in the early hours of Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at her son’s home, surrounded by her family’s love. She always held her faith dear and as St. Francis taught us, “where there is darkness, let me bring in the light as it is in dying that one awakens to eternal life.” One day we will know how lucky we were to have known her love with wonder, not grief. Although our sense of loss may be immeasurable, so too is the legacy she has left behind.
Arlene filled the world with sunshine. She wove a tapestry of unconditional love, kindness and faith that connected and strengthened the family, friends and community she deeply cherished. Arlene wasn't afraid to roll up her sleeves whether it was to help others or to work in the garden. She loved to be outside and affectionately hand-fed the squirrels, chipmunks, and birds eagerly awaiting nearby her doorstep. And with a lifetime of love for dogs ingrained in her heart, she always had a handful of biscuits ready for any canine friend that passed by, as well.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Arlene eventually moved to Oaklyn, New Jersey, where she raised her family before eventually making her home in Audubon Park. She worked as an office administrator for Merchant & Evans, Inc. in Burlington. A longtime and active parishioner of St. Joseph The Worker Parish in Haddon Township, she volunteered her time with the church choir as well as with the parish council. At home, she was a master at crocheting and was a proud member of the “Happy Hookers” knitting club. Arlene loved her Tootsie Pops and coffee ice cream. But most of all, she loved being a Mom and “Me Mom” to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Arlene was the widow of John Watson, Sr., and leaves behind her children, John J. Watson, Jr. and his wife Dana Watson, and Allison Del Duke and her husband Matthew Del Duke. She was a proud “Me Mom” of her grandchildren: Matthew, Nicole, Lindsay and her husband Anthony, Jonathan, Forrest, Cameron, Sandy, and of her great-grandchildren; Natalia, Alessandra, Hazel, Brody, Holland, Layla, Willow, and one more great-grandchild who just hasn’t arrived yet. Arlene is also survived and will be sadly missed by her sister Theresa and her husband Norman Guarni, as well as her constant kitty companion, Sweetie Pie.
Relatives, friends, neighbors, and parishioners are invited to gather to celebrate Arlene’s life through faith with her family on Saturday, January 18, 2025. The viewing will be held from 10 to 11 am and a Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 11 am at St. Joseph The Worker Parish, St. Aloysius Church 37 W. Haddon Ave. Oaklyn. A graveside tribute will take place at a later date at Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, PA.
As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Alzheimers Association 25 Dolphin Ave., Northfield, NJ 08225 or by clicking this link.
