Poetry is language at its most distilled and powerful. It is when emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words. Jenny Joseph’s “warning” was that, “When I am an old woman, I shall wear purple with a red hat that doesn't go and doesn’t suit me. That sassy “hattitude” got the most out of life. It's the love of laughing often when you’re old enough to know better but young enough to do it anyway. If you asked Ardyth A. Terney (nee Reimert) she’d tell ya; “What was supposed to happen, will happen.”
Ardyth approached her days with an open, accepting view of how our world turned. She was deeply concerned about and participated in her community. She held her faith dear and loved, more than anything, even that old red hat, spending time with her family. If we treat each other as if we are geniuses, poets, and artists, we have a better chance of becoming just that.
And, when she shall die, cut her out into little stars and he will make the face of heaven so fine that all the world will be in love with night. During the evening’s very early hours of the morning on August 18th, 2024 We placed the moon in Ardyth’s hands and had lit her way. After 93 years, her soul has ascended.
Ardyth created a Northstar of love that we could all look up to. It began in Allentown, PA during the winter of 1931. She graduated from Pierce College for Business and made her career as an administrative assistant at Rutgers University in Camden, closing out her working years in 1993. The U.S. Army took her and her husband to places like Germany, Texas, and North Carolina, among others, finally settling in the tiny little borough of Hi-Nella. Here, she volunteered her time at the Hi-Nella Fire Co., Station 691 Ladies Auxiliary. She was a lifelong congregant of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and was a member of the Red Hat Society where beneath every great hat was a great woman.
Mrs. Terney is the widow of her late husband, Chief Warrant Officer Albert R. Terney. OUr loss is immeasurable but is the love left remaining. Mrs. Terney’s legacy will long be remembered by her children, James & his wife Yvonne Terney, and Deborah and her husband Robert Gerkensmyer. She is the proud grandmother of; Lindsey & her husband John Creed, Joshua & his wife Hannah Terney, Dylan & his wife Annie Terney, Naomi (Todd) Watson, Heidi Barrett, 15 great-grandchildren, and 1 great, great-grandchild.
Relatives, friends, neighbors, and congregants are invited to join the Terney family. We’ll come together in tribute and thanksgiving to celebrate life in faith on Saturday morning between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church 409 White Horse Pike, Oaklyn, NJ 08107 where a funeral ceremony will be begin at 1:00 pm. A graveside tribute and the witness of love’s reunion will immediately follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Sewell. As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Mark’s at the above address.
