Anna J. Rettew

September 10, 1917 — November 7, 2015

(Nee Stainker) passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 7, 2015. Beloved wife of the late James R. and devoted mother of Bart and daughter-in-law Geraldine. Loving grandmother of Lori Moran (Mike), Bart Jr., Stacey Young (Stephen) and cherished great grandmother of Sean, Ryan, Andrew, Reid, Emily, Brendan, Shane, Benjamin, Jessica, Ethan, and Owen. She was predeceased by her siblings Viola, John, Jennette, Alvin, Roberta and Elmer and close cousins Andy and Marie Aman. She is also survived by sister-in-law Mary and a number of nieces and nephews including Sandy and Linda who provided comfort and support during her illness.

Anna was born, raised and spent 94 years of her life in Gloucester City. With the passing of her husband in 1971, her life revolved around her family and church. She cherished Gerry, Lori and Stacey who were always there to provide love, lend a helping hand, support and comfort her. Also, the happiness and laughter provided by the 11 great-grandchildren who never ceased to amaze her. She loved her family. Anna was a lifetime member of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension serving in the choir, Altar Guild and Day Branch. In 1971 she became the church sexton, a position she held until she was 94 years old. She loved her church and the Ascension community.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of her life Saturday, November 14th from 9:30 to 11:00 AM at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 110 S. Sussex St., Gloucester City, followed by a Eucharistic Service at 11:00 AM. Internment in Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro will follow Service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 110 S. Sussex St., Gloucester City, 08030. Please write in memo: Anna Rettew.
